Dresser Redo

As with every home, it takes awhile after moving in to figure things out. We moved into our first home last July (2010). For almost a year now, our entryway has been a catchall. I put a cedar chest there for blankets & off season throw pillows. There has been a coat rack there for most of the year. Other than those two main objects, it's been everything else that didn't have a 'home': shoes, jackets, mail, trash brought in from the vehicles, items bought at the store that never made it upstairs... and the list goes on & on! You know how it is and if you don't, please send your tips to me!

Well over a month ago, I found this dresser on Craigslist for $40 and jumped on the chance to get it. I could perfectly envision it in our entryway!
(I was way too tired lazy to put the drawers back in for a simple photo)

It sat in the garage for quite some time while there were all sorts of other things going on. But finally, one recent weekend I started some simple sanding. Okay, let me rephrase that. I started the horrific job of sanding. Because let me tell you, that was a pain in the royal bohonkas. I now know I wasn't using the right sandpaper, but at the time I was highly frustrated.

But eventually I was able to start painting & ended up with quite a beautiful repurposed & redone piece of furniture. There are SIX drawers to catch all the stuff that 'lives' in the entryway.

Oh lookie! There's already a junk mail drawer ;)

Alrighty, so here she is in all her blue glory. Here's the thing, I don't do blue. I don't have anything blue in my house. It's a color I 'did' in the mid-late 90's. Buuuut, the previous owners, in their remodel, put blue squares in the entryway tile. You'll see them below (kind of - they're between the X's). So I matched that color as best as I could (& did a pretty darn good job if I do say so myself).

And... our wedding tray has a new home :)

Don't ever underestimate the usefulness of a piece of furniture. I've used dressers as TV stands, chairs as plant pot holders, benches as coffee tables, and have plans to use an old marble/wood wash stand as a baby changing table!

Enjoy!
